Opencast mines are a part of the systems with the worst influence on all environmental components (air, water, ground, flora and fauna). In the case that we completely left out safeguards, dust emission would have a significant impact on the health of employees and the local population. Dust emission from quarries belongs to fugitive emissions and it is impossible to measure such emissions using standard methodology, which leads to the need for the introduction of appropriate
methodology. Using the compilation of air pollutant emission factors and methodology recommended by Evironmental Protection Agency (EPA) an assessment of dust emissions from the opencast mine has been made and therefore the adequate payment of fees for dust emissions can be made, respecting the prescribed legislation.
