Abstract

In order to determine the possibility of using recycled aggregate for concrete production, properties of recycled aggregate and limestone aggregates: particle size distribution, oven-dried particle density, saturated and surface dried particle density and apparent particle density, water absorption, resistance to fragmentation and impact resistance, were determined. Also, consistency and air content of fresh concrete were investigated, as well as compressive strength and modulus of elasticity of hardened concrete. It was found that, despite the inferior characteristics of recycled aggregate, it can replace 50% of three sieved fractions (4-8, 8-16, and 16-31.5 mm) of natural aggregate, with no significant deterioration in the properties of fresh and hardened concrete.
