The practical objective of this paper was based on improving the cleanliness of forging ingots, improving
the ingots yield by the reduction of ingot head, taking the example carbon steels produced in Steelwork
Zenica
In that sense, the modification of existing technologies has been done in the segment of secondary
metallurgy during production of liquid steel. The paper describes in detail the measures taken to improve
the existing technology of liquid steel production in the secondary metallurgy processes, which are
primarily related to the prevention of spillage BOF oxide slag in the ladle during tapping, adopting
different operation practice at the LF device, VD vacuum device, as well as changes in the way of
addittion a casting powder and use of high egsotermic covering powders at the end of casting, etc.
With introduced measures of secondary metallurgy treatments has been improved in existing working
conditions, and improvement is done regarding cleanliness of carbon steels grade C45E and also rejects
caused by steelmaking has been reduced.
