Nanotechnology relates to the production and management of the materials whose phases dimensions
are (grains of structure and manufactured of layers) up to 100 nm. Nanotechnology and
nanomaterials lead to major breakthroughs in many areas of scientific research with practical
application in the industrial sector.
The global market for nanotechnology is developing rapidly, which indicates the need for
standardization in this area. Recognizing this need CEN (European Committee for Standardizations)
started the activities related to standardization of nanomaterials and nanotechnology.
This paper will give a short presentation of the latest standards-documents for which they are
responsible to CEN's Committees. These activities are supported by the European Commission and
they are coordinated by the CEN Technical Committee on Nanotechnology (CEN / TC 352).
